Ashley and Kyle James’s love story circled the world. After traveling the world together, Kyle wrote a wonderful letter to her beloved who always supported her. The end of the letter actually signifies a significant start for them, since it is a proposal for marriage.
In it, the devoted author explains how, after his guilt, both of them became slaves to everyday routines and careers, and his apprentice continually begged him to explore the world and enjoy life. After deciding to realize Ashley’s dream, they spent 120 days in 15 countries, visiting 38 cities.
Read in the letter that Kyle wrote to Ashley after she realized that she is the girl she wants to spend her whole life with:
My sweet Ash,
You always dreamed of traveling around the world. When we started to meet, only talked about it. He told me how you can hardly wait to leave this small town where we studied, as you are eagerly waiting to experience life from a different angle.
When we graduated from college, you wanted to celebrate the 16 years of learning together. I told you that we need to start new careers and that these are our most important years. I told you that we still do not have the time or the money to travel around the world and I asked to wait for some time. You listened to me.
We decided to move to Denver to start our careers.
Every year at midnight, while we chew our cheap champagne and kissed gently in the background of the bustle of the New Year’s celebration, you asked me to travel the world with you. He asked me to take you to romantic corners in Prague and intimate islands in Thailand. He asked me to spend a nightmare with burns from the sun with you in Italy and long days under the booths of the beaches of the guttered islands. Every year he demanded from me and for a year, I gave you an excuse why we should wait. I told you that we need more work experience. You listened to me.
A year later, I was offered a new job, my dream job. When I came home with the news about the work, you seemed to be left without air. I could see you were broken. Your eyes started to glow with you while congratulating me on my gratitude for accepting what I worked hard for. “We can now take adventure holidays,” I assured you. But both of us knew that everything that we talked about for years and about which your whole life was dreaming was slipping from our hands.
After just a few weeks of the new job, I already hated it. It was not the job I thought it was and I was returning home feeling lost. For years I worked so hard to get to this point and it turned out that it was not what I wanted to do with my life. You sat me on the couch, looked me in the eye and said that you had a great idea.
I was afraid to leave the comfort of our lives in Denver, but waking up every morning to your smiling face, eagerly exploring, assured me that everything would be fine. It was difficult for me to accept our journey during the sleepless nights in the unbearable Tuscan heat and the exhausting travel days in the jungles of Thailand, but as we passed these tests and troubles together, we fell in deeper love because we had only one with each other and nothing else. When we got home, I was afraid that I would not finish the book on our trips, or that I would not be able to find a publisher, but you encouraged me to continue writing.
Ash, you’re the wind for my sails, the ink in my pen. No matter where I’m going or what I’m doing, the only thing I’m sure of is that I want to be beside me. Every rock I jump off, every mop that I break, every morning after a night of food poisoning, every Mediterranean sunset, I want to be beside me. I never want to stop exploring with you.
Will you marry me?
“Not Afraid to Fall” is the book Kyle wrote about the adventures around the world with his future wife.
